Depression is the greatest liar

Depression is the greatest liar.
It blinds you of the truth.
It says, “There’s nothing more than this.”
The harder you try not to listen,
The louder its voice grows.
It screams and yells
Until your tears fall and glisten.
You wish you could disappear.
As if it’s that easy.
You let the darkness swallow you.
Curl up. Knees to your chest.
It says, “You’re worthless.”
And you know the rest.
You try to give in and believe it.
You try to end your life.
You forget you are beautiful
Bought with a price.
You’re not the one who’s fucking worthless.
You’re the greatest gift of all.
You bring joy to this world
Though most days you don’t feel it.
The world needs you here.
Please believe it.
Don’t listen to depression no matter how strong it grows.
Just know,
It doesn’t define you.
You’re so much more.
You’re more than the sadness, anger, and pain.
Your soul is like  a rainbow after the rain.
Full of hope
Vibrant
Bright.
You can’t see the way you shine in the darkest night?
So here I am telling you
Listen to this part of yourself
Saying you’re more already.
You don’t have to change
Or ‘get better.’
Your life is like a letter.
If you give God the pen, He will give you the voice to read it
So even you will see
You are so much more than what depression has made you believe.

I am a New Jersey based poet who aspires to share my story through poetry and prose focused on faith and my journey with depression. I have overcome many obstacles and I believe everyone has a story to tell, even if they haven't found the words yet. I hope my words can inspire others to believe in their purpose and to find strength to climb the next mountain.
