The October Night Sky

Your words cut deep as we looked at the October night sky,
They ringed with truth and reality,
Something I had tried to ignore for quite a while.

Your eyes lingered on the lone star in the velvet sky,
And that’s what made my chest fall,
I realized that you had already moved on.

Just like the full moon you’ve completed your cycle,
At Dawn,
You will have left this town for good,
You’ll be the first person to ever venture forth into the great unknown.

And pretty soon,
I’ll become a blurry face in your memory,
You might recall me years later,
Left with a vague,
Rather distorted idea of who I was.

Auburn hair with unruly curls,
A golden necklace hanging from my neck,
Us dancing at the local fare,
Or maybe just the the mere thought of a girl who once loved you.
