it’s 3AM.
my head is thick and sweet with liquor
there’s a skyline before me,
grass below me
and you
right beside me.
we’ve laid here all night
speaking to the stars
well, actually, to each other
in the center
of the
city
we love.
there’s just inches between
our outstretched hands
but miles between
our uncertain hearts.
friends –
we’ve always been friends
but i don’t have
many friends
who look at me
the way you are
right now
like you’re seeing me
for the first time
like you’re looking
for constellations
in the freckles on my skin
like the stars above us
aren’t even there.

Author Bio: My name is Bridget Cook. I’m an ambivert, loyal friend/sister/daughter, creator and much more. I enjoy processing my experiences through writing, as well as pursuing the fascinating stories other people have to tell. I am a recent college graduate living, working and growing in Columbus, Ohio.
Empowering women and girls is one of my greatest passions. Through an account on Instagram (@_in_her_shoes_), I tell stories of fascinating women who are champions in their respective fields. Through this, I aim to change the narrative about women away from their physical appearance and toward their ambitions, dreams and goals.
