Let’s give a round of applause to the women who often get forgotten about.
To the Coretta’s, Betty’s and Winnie’s out there.
Standing alongside their husbands trying to prepare,
For the long fight ahead that would only leave them left with despair.
Smiling, walking full of grace, only to be left standing empty in his place.
To the mothers and wives who died while trying to find peace inside.
To the mothers who fought for their sons to have a chance to survive.
To the wives who walked, feet scorned and aching.
The shoes worn and torn only fighting to possibly be adorned.
To the souls that were left behind with their imprints only left in their soles.
To the women who were beaten and battered, who only got to see their dreams get shattered.
To the woman who didn’t make it to the end because her heart was too faint.
To the grandmothers repeating history of what they thought they’d never have to see again.
To the women who laid in the street crying in the 50s who now have to watch TV and see other women feeling their pain.
To the women who gave up because they felt like they had nothing more to gain.
I would like to say thank you for paving the way for me.
Paving the way for me to have a little freedom.
Paving the way for me to know that it is okay to be me.
Thank you.
