Inanimate Gestures

what I thought was this
as I tasted salty wind and watched
the bracken tremble in its ledge
how mighty the ocean might be in its tempest
without a soul
or a mind
or a body of its own
then with what or rather Whose power
I might assail all doubts
all fears
all that stands against
as mighty as the sea
who for all its grandness
only inanimately gestures
