i don’t want to die

i hear the drums of war,

and my anxiety soars;

every decibel of my body

caught in a limbo of numb fear

people act as if hiding their heads

in the sand will make it

all go away,

but ignorance is no bliss;

if this battle happens how much will

be enough to sate the greed

of politicians?

in a war, the rich profit, but the poor die;

and i don’t want to nor do i want those whom i love

to forfeit their lives for some thoughtless war

born only of hate and greed—

this world needs hope,

and so i try to break free of my fears

persevere bravely despite them;

but the anxiety is weighing me down

it feels like my heart is going to explode out of my chest—

someone, please, save us from ourselves.
