“Give it away.”
That’s what Grandpa Knight would always say
In between Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune rounds
with toxic cookies sneaked to his palm.
Cause at 7 diabetes is a noun not a verb.
Sugar fills your heart
Never drain life from your soul.
“Talent, skill, whatever
It might be,
Share it
so you leave a legacy.
See you my dear child, are
An aspen tree, gently blowing in the breeze.”
To be clear
I
was a Dyslexia reading/writing , ADD spacing, soccer ball bouncing, swing set swing jumper twirling child
Who’s legs grew faster than she knew what to do
evident by the bruises that each day appeared new.
Aspen trees are connected by deep roots, this I would later learn.
Which was his point
For me to learn.
That life can thrive
Even when all is burned
Put down roots
Connect to the community
You’re around.
So that when wildfires rage
And all appears lost.
You. Will. Sprout.
wipe the ash from your arms.
You’ll grow stronger and taller
Than ever before.
