Float

the chains –

they rattle me;

weigh me down.

hands like oars

pull me to shore.

the anchor –

pull me down,

keep me still still –

into the deep

of anxious thrills.

claw my way up –

no air in my lungs.

thrash my arms out –

there’s no escape,

no sound.

the gentle sway

cast out on waves

sings the lulls of

the dead man’s

float.
