Buying My Freedom

The more times I pass around the globe –

the more it becomes apparent to me,

Life is all about checks and balances.

Checking in comes easy –

But balancing has always been hard.

Check in with myself,

I want love.

I want a family.

I want success.

I want to write a book.

I want to build something that brings happiness to others.

I want to do something that will change the world.

I want to travel.

I want to see things most people never dreamed of seeing.

I want to feel weightless and free to wander.

I want friendships and deep laughs that can only come from the best of friends.

I want more time,

I need more time.

Balance,

Love, but love after a few broken hearts.

Family, but family after love.

Success, but at the expense of family?

Write a book, but at the risk of success.

Making others happy, but building takes time – building takes so much time.

Changing the world, but the world won’t accept change.

Travelling, but feeling insatiable.

Dreaming, but not seeing.

Feeling weightless like a balloon, but eventually being pulled back down to Earth.

Friendships and deep laughs, but chasing moments like the wind.

And then there is time,

Wanting more of it, but wasting what I have.

Cherishing moments passed instead of present moments.

It’s time that I wrestle with most.

Falling asleep in my twenties and waking up in my thirties.

Falling asleep in my thirties and waking up chasing my twenties.

Time feels like money.

But not in the investment banker,

Trying to get rich or die trying sort of way.

In a way that –

the time I want,

The freedom,

The flexibility,

To really touch the intangible,

Have my spiritual journey,

Reach the goals I want to reach before I die,

Requires freedom from the traditional confines that only money can buy.

So I guess what I’m saying is,

I am working to buy my freedom.

And someday I will check in with myself

And the balances,

Well the balances will feel more like necessities.

And moments will be well spent

And cherished often.

Time not viewed as an enemy,

But my travelling companion.
