Blemishes

Cover it up cover it up!

There’s gotta be a product for this

a product for that

Eyes. Ears. Skin. Hair.

Size. Color. Sound. Scent. Feel.

But don’t feel

bad

about being told you should feel bad

about your imperfections

your Eyes. Ears. Skin. Hair.

Size. Color. Sound. Scent. Feel.

I bet that model doesn’t feel

a sinking sense of disappointment

when she sees the modifications

on the presentation

of her Eyes. Ears. Skin. Hair.

Size. Color. Sound. Scent. Feel.

It’s funny how I can feel

at twenty-five

like I did at fifteen

when I felt like my blemishes

were too obscene

& I needed to not be seen.

not my Eyes. Ears. Skin. Hair.

Size. Color. Sound. Scent. Feel.

But these blemishes of my

Eyes. Ears. Skin. Hair.

Size. Color. Sound. Scent. Feel.

aren’t all of me.

They aren’t the whole.

What about the blemishes

of the soul

the ones that

cause me to hurt others

break hearts & numb my own

There’s One who

Because of Love

was blemished to take

and finish imperfection

in my soul

He restored and remade

me whole again

both blemished body and soul.

So don’t pay to cover it up

The cover’s been paid.

His life laid

down

and yours made whole

You’re beautiful

body and soul.
