An open letter to the badass women in my life on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day – the day we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Social media will be flooded with quotes by Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Michelle Obama, Susan B. Anthony, Billie Jean King and Megan Rapinoe. Women who have been trailblazers in their own respect, providing inspiration, role models and a guide for women today to continue to fight for equality (because in 2020, we are still having to do that).

But what about those trailblazers in your own life? Those women who have been role models, inspiration and support as you march towards your own social, economic, cultural and political achievements. Be sure to take a moment and thank them today as well.

Dear badass women in my life:

I hope you know who you are – I hope at some point along our journey I have shown you, in some way, what your presence has meant to me. You are my childhood friends, my teammates from high school, my high school teachers, my friends from college, my mentors from college, the people I met during my residency, the women sweating it out at hot yoga with me, the friends I’ve met through scuba diving, my work friends, my family, the women singing and dance at drag shows with me, my wolf pack, my tribe. And to the women that I don’t talk to very much, or not at all anymore, know that you have impacted my life as well.

I’m grateful for the lessons, the hugs, the heart to hearts, the laughs, the hurt, the memories, the inspiration, the truth, the honesty and motivation. I’m honored to have met each of you and am blessed beyond measure for your support, love, encouragement and strength over the years.

“Empowered women, empower women.” We are more powerful when we empower each other, so let’s keep making this world the place we dream it can be.

All my best,
Megan

I am a hospice consultant pharmacist who lives in Columbus, Oh. The past few years I’ve tried to use my voice more for women’s rights and empowerment, LGBTQ rights (I am bisexual), body image issues, eating disorders, the environment and mental health. I love to travel, and work a part time job to fund that passion. I’m also a runner, scuba diver, yogi, dog mom and more. I love to have vulnerable, open conversations, discuss astrology, books, movies and more.
