A Relaxing Realization

Recently I noticed how quickly I have been falling asleep for the last couple of months and yes, I do not blame you for asking yourself, “How is that a beautiful realization?” I am getting there. Over the years I had unintentionally gotten my body into the habit of sleeping no earlier than 2 a.m. Strange, I know, but I have my reasons which are rather strange too – I was too busy asking myself why I don’t have what others have, why can’t I afford to travel, why don’t I have a clear skin, why am I not getting straight A’s at school, am I too skinny, have people noticed…the insecure questions were endless.

Basically, I used to spend most of my nights beating myself up for not being perfect and not having what other people had. However, there are quite a number of things I did not notice, for example, how my family and I get along so well, how well I have been doing in school, how blessed I am to have a best friend that looks out for me and friends who love, support and appreciate me. Realizing how blessed and fortunate I am, I became grateful for what I have instead of moaning about what I don’t have, I learned that I am actually good enough and that not having money to spend on luxury expenses does not mean you cannot be happy.

I am living a life I have created for myself – a life I enjoy living. I am making the right decisions and hanging out with the right people who contribute so much in my growth. I am studying the right modules at University that intrigue me and keep me wanting more. I am getting where I have been dreaming to get very steadily because “easy does it” while gaining some life lessons on the journey.

Like I said, I realized such a beautiful thing recently…I am falling asleep right away now because the kind of life I used to stay up and dream about is the life I am living now. I have nothing to think about except the mystery of what the day ahead has in store for me.
