I Am Beautiful

Why bother telling me that I’m beautiful, I’m just going to deny it. I look in the mirror and see nothing that you see. What is this beauty that you speak of? I definitely do not have it. You see, my nose is too big and my face is full of scars from the past. How in any way is that beautiful? Don’t come around here with your mouth full of lies. Your deceitful smile and those marvelous eyes. I can’t seem to grasp the fact about any of this. Are you blind? Are you daft? Are you stupid? No words can describe how confused that I am. I sit there for a moment. Then ask, “how, in any way could you think that someone who looks like me could even be considered beautiful?” You chuckle, and softly say, “Beauty isn’t a definition, it isn’t the cover of a vogue magazine. Beauty is something you can look at and admire, something you fall in love with over and over everyday.” “In fact.” You say, with one finger pointed to the ceiling. “Everything has beauty to it; you just have to be smart enough to see it.”
