Something Like an Apology

Like a brick wall,

or a slap in the face.

I asked for too much,

now I can’t ask at all.

Is it sad to say I miss the yelling?

The fights meant you cared, right?

You would’ve chased after me,

now there’s no telling.

The quiet car rides are slowly killing me,

not even music to drown out the tension.

You turn away when I look at you,

I just wish you would see.

I think back to when I was a kid,

I’d always sleep in your t-shirts,

and the truth is sometimes I still do.

If only you’d tell me what I did.
