False Pretenses

My heart still controls me

Actually it’s my ego

It’s just wearing a disguise

We accept the love we think we deserve

My ego is confused

It thinks I can’t live without romantic affections

While simultaneously seeking from people who cannot give

How masochistic

Isn’t my ego supposed to protect me?

False pretenses

I’m 24 going on 4

My heart is locked in an iron cage

Ego has hidden the key

Do I even know where to start?
