Oft, I look at my amour and pause,
pull out my phone and search,
“What is a better word for love?”
What is a word that can encompass how
this human makes me feel?
Different than any emotion I have ever
felt for anyone before,
what is a better word for love?
I think these words,
conjuring up my phone’s search functions with no success
so much that I wonder when I will find an answer
I seek behind forehead kisses,
under the cover of his arms as he holds me tight
I look over those stars in his eyes,
around the warmth, he envelopes me with
and behind his ears, which actually take the time to listen
to my words and not just hear my voice.
I wonder,
shuffling through dictionaries,
relishing in my inclination to
yell, “I love you” just about three trillion times
hopping over thesaurus after thesaurus wondering
if I will get my answer.
I’m still searching, still seeking…
But the closest I’ve ever come to
finding a better word for love,
was at night, when the moonlight slips in through
window uninvited but always welcome,
shows me the beauty of his eyes, he looks at me, he smiles,
places his hand warmly on the face, and I whisper his name…
