Threadbare

I want to wrap you in a sweater
Worn and tattered
With threadbare elbows
Stains from spaghetti nights and spit-up
Knit stitch by stitch
Attempting to protect you from heartache
Mine, yours, theirs

Because sometimes we forget
Forget what we’re made of
Where we came from
You’ll wear new shiny suits
Fancy jackets made from the finest silk
But in the bottom drawer
Behind the old T-shirts you like to sleep in
A reminder that love is love is love is love
