Sleep with the Flowers

Let yourself run.

Hands touching every petal

And bulb. Fingers glide

Over every petal and bulb.

Inhale.

Let the scent sink

Into your home

Or heart. Whichever.

Strip

Away the expectations

You wear on your skin

Like lotion.

Sink

Into the veins

As they crawl

Up inside.

Exhale.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Back body bosom blossom breast

Covered in dirt

Let it soak

Deep

Inside

Your waters.

Make soil. Become soiled.

Cover yourself in the shade.

Use the breeze as your blanket.

Sleep with the flowers.

Finger their tainted

Bulbs.

Did they tell you?

If you sleep with the flowers,

You become soiled in sin.

Originally from Baltimore, Noelani moved to LA after graduating college. As she was working in the film industry, everything she hoped to pursue - film & writing - no longer motivated her as it did in college. She went back to her roots and began working in education. This eventually led her back to the East Coast. Noelani now lives in the DMV and works at a university.

For Harness, Noelani has written "Playground," "To My Sweets," and "Raising Daughters."
