The other side

I climbed the highest mountain
with the weight of depression on my shoulders
breaking me down with every step
telling my mind
I’ll never get past this.
Yet, here I am –
Throwing its weight to the bottom of the sea,
Forgetting everything it once made me believe.
And there you are –
Nowhere in sight;
Because that’s the way it was always meant to be.
I hope you know I’m never running back to you.
I have seen your controlling ways,
How you love to twist your words.
And though I thought I could save you,
That’s not my place.
You’ll always be who you are.

I am a New Jersey based poet who aspires to share my story through poetry and prose focused on faith and my journey with depression. I have overcome many obstacles and I believe everyone has a story to tell, even if they haven't found the words yet. I hope my words can inspire others to believe in their purpose and to find strength to climb the next mountain.
