Just Friends

We were friends
But that might’ve been a lie
Because every time I saw him I got butterflies
And though he was probably just being polite
When he wished me goodnight
I thought it was so sweet
Even my heart skipped a beat
And through the same jokes he told
It would never get old
He actually listened to what I said
And not just to reply, but to understand what was going on in my head
We could sit and talk for hours
About our dream superpowers
Or lay and stare at the stars
As the music blares from the car
And when he asked if I wanted to dance
How could I not take a chance
We were friends
But we stared into each other’s eyes a little too long to be just friends
