Real Stories

A letter to my past self

Sometimes things will get a lot worse before they get better.

People will drag you down with their words. They will try to hold their power over you to make you feel inferior. But, you are so much more then how others choose to define you.

So many people are fighting their own battles, so they look for someone to project their anger and insecurities on. At times, that person may be you.

Your kindness will be taken advantage of. Know when to speak kindness and when to be silent. Don’t take it personally.

You are strong because of what you have been through. And although at times you may feel broken and compare yourself to others, you story is just as important and will one day inspire others.

And the moment you find your voice, don’t let anyone take it away.

Words hold power and meaning so use your for the good. Be the person you needed, because at the end of the day, you are growing into all you’re meant to be while those who have tried to hurt you will always be the same.

I am a New Jersey based poet who aspires to share my story through poetry and prose focused on faith and my journey with depression. I have overcome many obstacles and I believe everyone has a story to tell, even if they haven't found the words yet. I hope my words can inspire others to believe in their purpose and to find strength to climb the next mountain.
