Cycles are Important

Throughout the time that I have been in school or anywhere, especially with female friends, it eventually led to conversations about women having their cycle. I was told “cycles are supposed to happen for a woman.” Otherwise, if it doesn’t, you’re a late bloomer or something is wrong.

“Cycles were told to be confirmations that you were okay, and you were not pregnant from being with that guy that one day.” Plus, when I had conversations between friends, I couldn’t connect with their feeling of being nauseous or angry because of their cycle. If I was nauseous or angry, it was normally because I ate the wrong thing or I lost something I needed for school the next day.

When I told them these things, some of their comments were cold and some were surprising comments. For example, “Oh, you must be messed up,” “You’re a female, how do you not?” The comments are even worse when from the people that claimed to be my companions.

I get, “Well how would I know if you are going to have a baby or not?” or “So basically, you’re not right somewhere?” or the “I don’t know if I’m okay with that, it’s weird.” As if they knew…

Truthfully, it bothers me that I must hear these things because I believe that with or without a cycle, I am still me. if it happens to come, then it will. If it doesn’t, I am still going to be the same whole woman with feelings.
