Peas and Carrots

what if desire were a food group
fed when hungry
instead of getting shoved
buried
shamed into submission

would you recognize her if you saw inside?
The shadow of craving
The darkness of want
Living in the alleys
Between bedtime and brushed teeth
Caught in the cracks
Of lunches packed and carpool

She might just have a little more patience
If along with the peas and carrots
She was being fed
What she was hungry for
