Good Bye

You said you weren’t ready so I let you go.
Though I felt the tension when you drove me home.
You pulled over, curbside, and shifted the gear to park from drive.
Neither of us said a word, so seconds passed and it felt like minutes.
I wanted to hug you, kiss you, tell you “I love you”
but I could barely bring myself to look you in the eye.
My heart always flutters when you sigh.
You inhaled deeply before you turned to face me.
I met your gaze rather unhasty.
Your eyes were red-rimmed and round.
Everything was said without you making a sound.
