Life is about finding yourself

Life Isn’t About Finding Yourself

You’ve heard the saying before, haven’t you?

“Life is about finding yourself.”

I’ve heard it a billion times, but I never really thought about it until today.

I had a major “ah-ha!” moment while browsing through Instagram.

The idea behind “life is about finding yourself” is a crock of shit, hit me like a ton of bricks. (Love it when that happens!)

You see, human beings seem to be on a constant and never-ending quest to “find themselves”.

It seems to come in various forms such as the existential “why am I here?” to the “what do I want to do with my life” (career-based anyhow).

But as I said, for most, this quest seems never-ending. Sure, some of us figure out our life’s path and live happily ever after, but for most, we seem to struggle in finding out who we are and our life purpose. Raise your hand if you’ll feel me! (**raises own hand**)

Then it occurred to me!

I believe it was George Bernard Shaw who said it, but I’ve also heard Bob Dylan say it too so here we are:

“Life isn’t about finding yourself……it’s about creating yourself!”

When I really thought more deeply about that quote, it all made sense to me!

The reason why it is so hard to “find” yourself is that you’re not lost…. you’re right here, right now!

The world is your oyster!

Your life is a blank canvas!

Go! Create yourself!

You are literally the great architect of your life!

So, stop searching for something that is right in front of you.

I appreciate the you that you are right now and build on that!
