If you’re reading this, chances are, you’ve experienced the overwhelming pain of struggling through a breakup. Heartaches aren’t fun, and often it can seem like the pain is everlasting. (Spoiler Alert: It’s not.)
However, when the pain is fresh, we seek hope urgently. Anything to steer our mind away from the torture of reliving the happy moments in the relationship.
But, where can you turn?
God. Scripture.
God and his holy word can give us true hope and healing.
Here are 6 bible verses to read and meditate upon after a breakup:
- Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
This verse is powerful. It is a strong reminder that God is with us when we are down and through our pain. Our pain isn’t hidden, he knows of it. Through him, everything will be alright, because he will save us.
- Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
If we allow God into our sadness, he heals and relieves us of our pain.
- John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
God promises us peace. Lean on God and you will receive his promise of peace, even in your times of struggle. Don’t be afraid to give in to the Lord, only peace can come of your surrender.
- Proverbs 17:22
“A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
We have to love others, but we must also love our selves. Through loving God, we can love ourselves, and as a result, show our love for others. Love God, and as a result, you will love yourself, if you can love God you will be ready for your future partner.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
This was God’s plan for you right now. This one can be a tough pill to swallow. No one wants to hear, it wasn’t meant to be, but this is a little different. This verse is a reminder to thank God even when we are down and our plans did not work out as expected. The plans God has for us are perfect, and there is so much better to come. Yes, it wasn’t meant to be, rejoice, and thank God for removing you from what wasn’t for you.
- Romans 8:18
“ I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Are we in pain right now? Yes, of course, but God has something in store for you. Something beautiful. We just have to be patient and pray to the Lord. The feelings you are experiencing now are normal, but once worked through, what’s to come will be glorious.
What’s most important is to remember God is with you, and through his guidance, you will reach the glory of his plans for you. Sometimes it won’t feel like God is close, because pain is suffering, but we have to pray. Yes, it can be tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel when we are heartbroken, our mind can get foggy, but there is light through Christ. Reach out to the Lord, read scripture, start your path to healing!
