Women’s empowerment can be a heavy and complicated topic, especially in today’s media. No matter where you find yourself in political and social movements you should always believe in self-betterment. So how can you channel your inner boss lady? Here are six ways to start.
- Invest in you
Take care of your physical and mental health. Maintaining a healthy diet helps you genuinely feel good and have more energy! Try to have 30 minutes of exercise daily, even if it’s broken up into increments of 10 minutes throughout the day. Maintaining mental health includes understanding and controlling your emotions. We all have our moments, but being a boss lady means dealing with emotions in a healthy way that allows you to stay focused on your goals. I’ve found that talking with a close friend helps me deal with unwanted negative feelings.
- If you want to be a boss, dress like one!
First impressions are made in only seconds of when you are first seen. These lasting impressions can impact you, big time. Dressing like a boss lady helps you give off the right impression. This doesn’t mean you have to follow the latest fashion trends or spend hundreds of dollars on name brand clothing. Wear what makes YOU feel the most confident. As Academy Award winning costume designer Edith Head says, “You can have anything you want. If you dress for it.”
- Take risks
Risk-taking opens up unforeseen opportunities. Though there is a chance of failure, being a boss lady means over-coming this fear and embracing learning experiences. If you don’t bet on yourself, who else will?
- Find boss lady role models
Virtually anyone can be a role model, from a public figure to a family member. Positive role models can help uncover areas for potential development or change your perspective on obstacles you face in life by learning from their experiences. I encourage you to make at least one of your role models someone you know personally so they can act as a mentor to you.
- Surround yourself with honest motivators
An honest motivator is not a yes-man, but instead tells you the truth, even if it’s hard to hear. This type of person is there to push you past your limits while at the same time protect you from unnecessary mistakes.
- Support other boss ladies
Empowered women, empower women. While being a boss lady is centered around self-confidence, it’s important to be humble. Never view another’s success as a threat to your own. The stronger they are, the stronger you can be. See other boss ladies as part of your team. Grow together, stick together, and be bosses together.
While self-betterment is a never ending process, surrounding myself with other boss ladies striving for greatness encourages me to continue working. I am a happier and more confident woman because of the time I’ve spent self-reflecting and pushing myself. I believe that by implementing the six suggestions above you too can channel your inner boss lady!
