A letter to the girl in a toxic relationship

Repeat after me: I am not alone.

You are so much more than what your relationship has made you believe. You are not truly lost and although you may not recognize the girl in the mirror, questioning who you are and how you got there, you are not alone because I have been there too.

I know you are tired of the lies and making excuses. I know you think things won’t get better, that this dark place will last forever. But there is still light. There is still hope waiting for you.

I know you are confused and hurting. You’ve lost your joy and reasons to smile. You’re confused and feel misunderstood. Your voice has been silenced by the pain and confusion.

But I hear you. And you are seen. So take a deep breathe. Pick up a pen and write.

You will find your power and strength again. This is not the end of you. You are so much stronger than the pain happening to you. You are beautiful, resilient, and brave.

Darling, you are not alone.

You have the power to choose.

No one else can dictate your life’s decisions.

Take your life back

You can do this.

Repeat after me: I am not alone.

-I have been there too.

I am a New Jersey based poet who aspires to share my story through poetry and prose focused on faith and my journey with depression. I have overcome many obstacles and I believe everyone has a story to tell, even if they haven't found the words yet. I hope my words can inspire others to believe in their purpose and to find strength to climb the next mountain.
